The CPIC Unit is responsible for assisting members of the London Police Service (LPS) by updating and maintaining LPS records within the CPIC system. CPIC Operators act as the main point of contact for the LPS, receiving and disseminating thousands of transactions per month through emails, messages, phone calls, and faxes. CPIC Operators support officers in the performance of their duties by confirming entries such as warrants and accused conditions for LPS and other police services nationally, fielding non-emergency calls after hours, and redirecting more urgent requests to the Communications Section.

Responsibilities:

• Support officers in the execution of their duties by performing queries on the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) and the LPS’ Record Management System (RMS), relaying information, adding, modifying, and removing entries, advising on the correct processes for court paperwork, and requesting information from outside agencies.
• Utilize the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) to confirm driving suspensions, vehicle registered owner information, insurance status validity, and support officers with the process of issuing Administrative driver’s licence suspensions (ADLS).
• Facilitate tows for vehicle suspensions and impaired drivers as requested.
• Coordinate with officers to facilitate the proper execution of warrants and update local records in accordance with legislative changes.
• Confirm accuracy and validity of CPIC entries which can indirectly affect the safety and well-being of officers and members of the public.
• Maintain manual and electronic files such as occurrence reports, fax message log, warrants, mental health forms, release documents, call statistics, query logs, and ADLS suspension forms.
• Transcribe occurrences and other incident reports into RMS from members of the LPS and outside agencies.
• Co-ordinate the escorts of prisoners for out-of-town CPIC warrants.
• Identify and seek corrections on court and officer issued documents.
• Generate flag records for towed or repossessed vehicles, LPS contractors, trespass notifications, and temporary absence permits.
• Create Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) calls afterhours for recovered stolen vehicles/plates, restraining orders, and missing persons.
• Analyze missing persons reports after hours to identify pertinent information and determine whether a call for service is required.
• Receive calls for service on the non-emergency line when Switchboard is not operational, assess the nature and severity of the call, transfer call to Communications if officer involvement is required, or advise caller on how to report incidents independently.
• Ensure accuracy and validity of documents received from each department and request corrections as needed.
• Act as a Commissioner of Oath on behalf of the LPS, swearing to diverse court documents, ITO warrants, Oaths of Secrecy, and KGB statements within LPS and EMDC.
• In the absence of the CPIC Supervisor, complete assigned duties such as responding to and releasing probation and parole requests, auditing CPIC entries, and updating expiries based on the RCMP purge list.
• Review occurrences marked for purging to determine their purge eligibility based on LPS Retention Procedure and CPIC involvement.
• Other duties as assigned within the core competencies.

Requirements:

• Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
• 6-12 months’ experience in customer service or a related field.
• Strong problem-solving skills and judgement required to inform decisions in a variety of situations.
• Effective communication skills for regular contact with LPS members and members of the public to give, obtain and/or exchange routine information or decisions requiring general discussion and explanation to ensure understanding.

Benefits/Pension:

Temporary members receive ten percent (10%) of their hourly rate in lieu of benefits (after 120 calendar days) and are also eligible to join the OMERS Pension Plan upon their first day of hire.

Hours of Duty:

Rotating 11 and 12 hour shifts
