As a Recreation Assistant, no two weeks are the same. You might be helping with a birthday party, supporting kids in baking or science programs, assisting with trivia nights or art workshops, or setting up special events like movie nights and adult candle-making sessions. You’ll also oversee drop-in programs like pickleball, open gym times for basketball, volleyball, or badminton, and help facilitate youth courses such as the Home Alone and Babysitter’s programs. This is a great opportunity for someone who genuinely enjoys connecting with the community and creating positive, engaging experiences for participants of all ages.

Required qualifications:

• Must be at least 15 years of age;
• Basic swimming and skating skills, and general knowledge of recreation and leisure services;
• Possess C.P.R. Level ‘C’ Emergency First Aid Certification and be knowledgeable in standard first aid techniques (Red Cross Standard First Aid preferred);
• Good communication and public relations skills, with the ability to use tact and courtesy in dealing with customers;
• Ability to effectively deal with children who exhibit challenging behavior or are disruptive to the group;
• Must pass a Criminal Record Check; and
• A Bronze Cross certification in swimming is preferable.

The job rate for this part-time Union position is $20.72 per hour plus 16% in lieu of benefits, and upon successful completion of the required probationary period, if eligible, participation in the benefit program. The Recreation Assistant must be available for shifts from up to four (4) hours to eight (8) hours inclusive of evenings, weekends and some holidays.
