Reports to the Mechanic Foreman and maintains and repairs buses, vehicles, grounds equipment and generators.
POSTING DETAILS
- Position - Mechanic
- Start Date - As soon as possible.
- Employment - Full-time, continuing position (40 hrs/wk)
- Hours - Monday to Friday (7:30am to 4:00pm)
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains and repairs all buses, vehicles, grounds equipment and generators.
- Maintains preventative maintenance program according to Ministry of Transportation requirements.
- Installs, maintains and repairs alternate fuel systems.
- Orders parts, equipment, tools and supplies.
- Road tests vehicles.
- Operates tools and equipment of the trade.
- Respond to emergency situations as requested.
- Inspects (daily) and operates a service vehicle.
- Performs other assigned comparable duties which are within the scope of knowledge, skills and abilities required by this class specification.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Completion of Grade 12.
- Apprenticeship and/or Trades Qualification Certificate (Commercial Transport Vehicle Repairs or Automotive Mechanical Repairs).
- Class 3 B.C. Driver's License, including Air Brake endorsement
- One-year related experience.
- Ability to perform a variety of skilled tasks in the maintenance of district vehicles, equipment and generators.
- Thorough and current knowledge of the standards, practices, regulations, methods, tools and equipment of the trade.
- Ability to communicate effectively using courtesy and tact in the explanation and exchange of information.
- Ability to determine, judge and select appropriate course of action within limits of established methods and procedures.
- Physical ability to perform the required duties
