Intermediate Pavement Engineer (2026072495)

Overview

Thurber has an exciting opportunity for an Intermediate Pavement Engineer to join our team in Oakville or Pickering, Ontario .

Thurber provides geotechnical, environmental and construction materials engineering and testing services for a variety of industries across Canada. Our multidisciplinary expertise allows us to work on problems related to earth, the environment and construction materials. We solve problems in a wide variety of industries including transportation, building construction, municipal infrastructure, land development, dams and water resources, industrial development, mining, oil and gas, marine and environmental services.

This posting is to fill an existing vacancy for this location.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate subsurface site investigations, including borehole logging, sampling of asphalt, soil and rock, pavement condition surveys, drainage condition surveys, pavement coring;
• Coordinate and carry out field inspection of construction works;
• Prepare technical reports such as technical specifications, pavement design reports and write proposals;
• Carry out pavement engineering analysis such as DARWin, AASHTOWare Pavement ME, and StreetPave 12;
• Supervision of technicians and junior engineers; and,
• Manage project schedule and budgets.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering;
• Post-graduate degree in Pavement Engineering is an asset;
• Minimum 4 years of experience in Pavement Engineering field;
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.); and,
• Prior experience in consulting engineering is considered an asset.

Desirable Skills

• Strong English oral and written skills;
• Ability to incorporate Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) testing into pavement investigation and ability to carry out FWD analysis using ELMOD or equivalent software;
• Ability to interpret Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) survey results and incorporate into pavement investigations;
• Familiarity with Inertial profiler testing and result interpretation;
• Strong analytical, project management and report writing skills;
• A high level of proficiency with current pavement software applications;
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills;
• Ability to work independently and cooperate with a team in various environment; and,
• Valid Ontario Driver’s License (G).

Base Salary Range

• $84,000 - $99,000 per year, based on a 40-hour work week.
• The posted wage range for this position represents the range for the experience and qualifications noted in this posting.
• The offered wage may be adjusted upward for candidates whose qualifications and experience exceed those expressed in this posting.
• Candidates with less experience and qualifications may be considered at a reduced starting wage.
