People and Culture Director

TallSky Consulting is proud to partner with the Cowichan Women Against Violence Society ( CWAVS) in the recruitment of a People and Culture Director to join their Senior Leadership Team in Duncan, BC . This in-office opportunity offers a 32-hour work week with a flexible work schedule that meets operational needs.

CWAVS works from a feminist, anti-oppressive, and decolonizing perspective to support women, children, and individuals impacted by violence and abuse. As the Society continues to grow, this newly created leadership role reflects its ongoing investment in the people who make their mission possible. Building on established, strong people practices, the People and Culture Director will provide strategic and operational leadership across all aspects of the employee experience, partnering with leaders to foster psychologically and culturally safe workplaces where employees can thrive while carrying our meaningful and emotionally demanding work.

In this role, the People and Culture Director will:

• Lead recruitment, onboarding, and retention practices in ways that are welcoming, consistent, and aligned with CWAVS values
• Work alongside leaders to navigate employee relations, performance development, and team dynamics with care and clarity
• Oversee compensation, benefits, and people-related practices with a focus on fairness and transparency
• Promote employee wellness, including return-to-work planning and supportive workplace practices
• Support alignment with legislation and internal policies, with an emphasis on understanding and practical application
• Contribute to a culture grounded in equity, inclusion, and anti-oppressive and decolonizing practices
• Participate as a management representative on the Joint Health and Safety Committee

Our Ideal Candidate Brings:

• Post-secondary education in Human Resources or a combination of relevant education and experience
• 5+ years of progressive HR experience, ideally in a not-for-profit, social services, or values-driven environment, with leadership responsibilities
• CPHR designation or candidacy is considered an asset
• Working knowledge of applicable legislation (e.g., BC Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, Workers’ Compensation Act, FOIPPA)
• Experience leading people practices grounded in feminist, anti-oppressive, and decolonizing values
