Salary: $38.65 – 40.26 – 41.93 – 43.65/hour

Schedule: 80 hours bi-weekly; Monday to Friday from 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM (Shift Range from 6:00 AM to 3:30 PM)

This position works in the Amenities and Structures organizational unit. This is supervisory work in the planning, assigning, supervising, reviewing and as required, participating in the work of one or more crews of subordinates engaged in a variety of Parks grounds maintenance, eco-sculpture, habitat restoration, invasive species control and/or minor construction tasks, with a primary focus on playground inspection, maintenance and repair operations. The incumbent assists in the preparation of preliminary budget estimates and monitors actual expenditures and advises a supervisor of any anticipated problems; motivates, allocates, trains and disciplines members of crews, ensures safety of crews and public by advising and enforcing observance of accident prevention methods and precautions; plans, assigns, supervises, reviews, inspects and may participate in the work of one or more crews of subordinates engaged in a variety of parks grounds maintenance, eco-sculpture, habitat restoration, invasive species control and/or minor construction tasks such as installing playground equipment, preparing and installing eco-sculptures, mowing, fertilizing, laying out of sports fields and trails, repairing playground equipment, bleachers, picnic tables and other related items, installing minor irrigation systems, removing trees and a variety of other such tasks such as inspecting playground equipment and protective surfacing to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards. The successful candidate will be required to accept standby and call-out work assignments. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of Grade 12, preferably supplemented by training or courses related to the work plus considerable related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, materials and equipment used in parks grounds maintenance, minor construction, eco-sculpture, habitat restoration, and/or invasive species control and removal operations such as environmental regulations and practices (such as nesting season, fish-bearing streams, and environmentally sensitive areas), and playground inspection and maintenance practices, hazards and safety standards applicable to playground equipment and surfacing; hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work. Ability to plan, assign, supervise, review, and participate in the work of subordinate crews; prepare and maintain records and reports related to the work, including playground inspection and maintenance records, using electronic systems and applications (e.g. Microsoft Word and Excel); establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates and the public. Skill in the use and care of equipment, materials and vehicles used in the work. A valid Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia and Canadian Certified Playground Inspector Certification are required for this position.
