Position Overview
Young Agrarians is seeking a dynamic and passionate BC Apprenticeship Program Coordinator to support the coordination and development of its Apprenticeship Program in British Columbia.
The successful candidate will help recruit and support host farms and apprentices, organize on-farm learning opportunities, conduct check-ins and evaluations, and contribute to program promotion. The position involves building relationships with farmers, educational institutions, community organizations, and other partners to strengthen agricultural learning opportunities.
The role is suited to someone who enjoys collaboration, relationship-building, program coordination, and supporting aspiring farmers as they develop the skills and experience needed for careers in agriculture.
For a suitable candidate, there may also be an opportunity to take on additional communications responsibilities if Young Agrarians secures a wage subsidy for a post-secondary student.
Key Responsibilities
1. Program Coordination
The coordinator will support the effective delivery and continued development of the Young Agrarians Apprenticeship Program through the following responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain relationships with host farms throughout British Columbia.
- Build partnerships with farm organizations that support the delivery of farm tours.
- Establish and maintain relationships with educational institutions and community organizations that work with potential program applicants.
- Host in-person orientations for apprentices.
- Co-host online events for host farms and apprentices.
- Support apprentices throughout their learning journeys and help them prepare for careers in agriculture.
- Publish farm mentor profiles on the Young Agrarians website.
- Support the promotion and marketing of the Apprenticeship Program.
- Identify wage subsidies and other value-added opportunities that may benefit host farm mentors.
- Keep provincial documents, contact lists, and program materials accurate and up to date.
- Share relevant opportunities, resources, tools, and communications with the British Columbia Young Agrarians network through the organization’s website, social media, and U-Map platform.
- Contribute to the overall vision and development of the Apprenticeship Program.
2. Additional Communications Responsibilities
These responsibilities would apply if Young Agrarians receives a wage subsidy for a post-secondary student.
- Create and coordinate program communications and promotional content, including social media posts, blog articles, short-form videos or reels, graphics, newsletters, and other promotional materials.
- Collect stories and content from apprentices and host farms through interviews, field updates, and promotional storytelling.
- Lead promotional activities and media outreach for the program.
- Support program events and communications, including setting up Eventbrite events, promoting activities, and coordinating with program coordinators.
- Use digital analytics to evaluate communications performance and improve content.
- Optimize program content for search engine optimization (SEO) and answer engine optimization (AEO).
- Create and update printed program materials.
- Coordinate the annual ordering of printed materials for the team.
Qualifications and Experience
Young Agrarians encourages applications from candidates who bring a combination of relevant experience, skills, and enthusiasm. Applicants do not need to meet every qualification listed below to apply.
Suitable candidates should demonstrate the following:
- Relevant experience: Experience in program coordination, education, agriculture, or a related field.
- Agricultural knowledge: Familiarity with British Columbia’s food and farming community and a strong commitment to sustainable agriculture.
- Relationship-building: The ability to connect with apprentices, mentors, host farms, partner organizations, and other stakeholders.
- Communication skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Interest in experiential learning: An appreciation for hands-on learning and practical agricultural education.
- Organization and administration: Strong administrative, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Adaptability: A resourceful, positive, and solutions-oriented approach to challenges.
- Remote teamwork: Experience working effectively with a remote or geographically distributed team.
- Nonprofit experience: Experience working for or representing a nonprofit organization, with an understanding of mission-driven work.
- Digital platform proficiency: Familiarity with Google Drive, Salesforce, Eventbrite, Canva, and WordPress.
- Digital content creation: Experience producing content for social media, newsletters, blogs, or other digital platforms.
- Remote work readiness: Access to a home office, computer, reliable internet connection, and cellphone.
- Photography and videography: These skills are considered an asset.
Applicants should also be prepared to indicate their location in British Columbia and identify the digital platforms and software they have experience using.
Compensation and Working Hours
The position offers the following compensation and working arrangements:
- Hourly pay: $30 per hour.
- Vacation pay: 6%.
- Regular hours: 15 hours per week.
- Potential additional hours: Up to 24 hours per week if a wage subsidy is secured for an eligible post-secondary student.
- Employment schedule: Part-time, year-round.
- Expected start: Early January 2027.
The additional hours are linked to the possibility of obtaining wage-subsidy funding for a post-secondary student enrolled in an accredited Canadian post-secondary institution in a related field of study in science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics, or business.
Applicants who are currently enrolled in post-secondary studies should indicate their enrolment status and preferred weekly working hours in their application.
Important: You do not need to be a post-secondary student to apply for the core BC Apprenticeship Program Coordinator position. The standard position is 15 hours per week.
Work Arrangement and Workplace Culture
The position is based remotely in British Columbia. Applicants are asked to state where they live in their application.
Young Agrarians strives to maintain a workplace that reflects the diverse communities it serves. Its workplace culture emphasizes authenticity, collaboration, and emotional intelligence, encouraging team members to contribute their perspectives and strengths while working collectively to support farmers and communities.
The coordinator will work with a network of farmers, apprentices, educational institutions, community organizations, and program partners to create meaningful agricultural learning experiences.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the development of the next generation of agricultural leaders while supporting sustainable and regenerative farming in British Columbia.
The successful candidate will help connect aspiring farmers with experienced mentors, strengthen relationships across the agricultural sector, and improve access to practical training and educational resources.
The position may particularly appeal to candidates interested in sustainable agriculture, community development, education, nonprofit programming, farmer-to-farmer learning, and communications.
