Maintenance Planner

Job Overview

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this position is responsible for managing the planning and scheduling of all maintenance work, including developing, scheduling, optimizing, analyzing, and closing work orders of all types. It also generates reports relating to maintenance activities such as labor, material parts cost, total equipment costs, schedule compliance, and proactive work.

Location: Lunenburg, NS production facility. Must be on site 5 days per week. Relocation available for candidates in Alberta and Ontario.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage the workflow process to ensure all requested work is inputted correctly into the CMMS, with proper skill assignment, cost center, and clear instructions.
• Track maintenance activities and communicate effectively to all stakeholders on the status of requested work.
• Work closely with maintenance technicians to ensure work is completed on time and in full.
• Collaborate with Spare Parts Coordinator(s) to develop, implement, and optimize kitting process.
• Optimize maintenance plans and schedules for predictive, preventive, routine, scheduled, and emergency maintenance work.
• Develop detailed PMs and ensure all plant assets are in the CMMS with all necessary PMs in place.
• Train maintenance staff to utilize the CMMS effectively and track Maintenance KPIs.
• Adhere to company policies, procedures, GMPs, SOPs, and safety policies.
• Encourage coworkers to work safely.
• Assist in the development of equipment BOMs.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

• Secondary School diploma.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a maintenance mechanic in an industrial maintenance field.
• Thorough technical knowledge in industrial maintenance, regulations, standards, codes, and engineering principles.
• Strong communication skills in English.
• Ability to lift 20 lbs regularly.
• Experience with CMMS systems and Microsoft Office.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask.
• Previous experience in maintenance planning and/or scheduling.
• Understanding of schedule compliance and cost impacts.
• Highly adaptable to changing priorities.
• Objective judgment and fact‑based decision making.
• Flexibility to work all shifts, weekends, and holidays.
• Team‑oriented collaboration with Maintenance and production teams.

Physical Requirements

The employee must walk, sit, talk, listen, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to use hands to handle, operate, and feel objects, tools or controls, and sometimes operate a motor vehicle. Sufficient visual acuity and ability to adjust focus are required. Hearing and speaking clearly is necessary to communicate with clients, coworkers, and vendors.

Plant Environment

The plant work environment exposes the employee to loud noise, food‑grade dust and odors, moving and vibrating machinery, heavy equipment, powered industrial trucks, heights, traffic, anhydrous ammonia, oil, electrical hazards, and adverse weather conditions including extreme cold, heat, rain, snow, dust, smoke, and odors. Allergens present include fish, shellfish, nuts, eggs, wheat, soy, milk and coconut.
