Spiritual Care Coordinator, Nithview Community

Position Summary
The Spiritual Care Coordinator supports the spiritual, emotional, and existential well-being of residents within the Long-Term Care and Retirement Home. The role provides inclusive spiritual care services to residents of diverse faiths, cultures, and belief systems and supports residents and families during illness, transition, and end-of-life. The Spiritual Care Coordinator works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team and is an active member of the Home's Palliative Care Committee. The role also recruits, coordinates, and supports spiritual care volunteers and community faith partners who provide services within the Home.This position promotes a compassionate, resident-centred approach that honours dignity, meaning, and connection for residents and their families.
Shape Key Responsibilities
Resident Spiritual Care
Provide and facilitate structured programming such as services and bible studies.
Provide spiritual and emotional support to residents of all faith traditions and belief systems.
Offer one-to-one visits with residents seeking spiritual support, reflection, or pastoral care.
Facilitate opportunities for prayer, meditation, reflection, or spiritual conversation as requested.
Provide supportive presence to residents experiencing grief, loneliness, or life transitions.
Maintain confidentiality and respect resident autonomy and preferences. End-of-Life and Palliative Support
Participate as a member of the Palliative Care Committee and contribute to the development of compassionate end-of-life practices.
Provide spiritual and emotional support to residents and families during serious illness and end-of-life care.
Assist in facilitating bedside spiritual care, rituals, or faith practices when requested by residents or families.
Support memorial or remembrance initiatives within the Home. Spiritual Programming
Coordinate inclusive spiritual programming that reflects diverse traditions and beliefs.
Organize worship services, spiritual discussion groups, meditation sessions, or reflection opportunities.
Facilitate seasonal and holiday spiritual observances when appropriate.
Work collaboratively with Recreation staff to integrate spiritual wellness into quality-of-life programming. Volunteer Coordination
Recruit, orient, and support spiritual care volunteers and community faith leaders.
Coordinate volunteer schedules and ensure appropriate supervision and support.
Ensure volunteers follow Home policies, infection prevention practices, and confidentiality standards.
Maintain relationships with local faith communities who provide services or visits to residents. Interdisciplinary Collaboration
Work collaboratively with all departments and team members to support holistic resident care.
Participate in relevant care conferences or interdisciplinary discussions where spiritual care considerations are identified.
Communicate resident spiritual needs to appropriate team members while respecting privacy and consent. Documentation and Quality
Maintain appropriate documentation related to spiritual care visits and services as required by the Home.
Contribute to quality improvement initiatives related to resident well-being and end-of-life care.
Ensure practices align with the Home's policies and regulatory requirements.

Other duties as assigned Qualifications
Education or training in Spiritual Care, Pastoral Care, Theology, or a related field.
Certification or eligibility for certification with a recognized spiritual care body (preferred but not required).
Experience providing spiritual or pastoral care in healthcare, community, or congregational settings.
Demonstrated ability to support individuals of diverse faith traditions and belief systems.
Experience working with volunteers or community partners is an asset.
Knowledge of palliative care principles and end-of-life support.
Skills and Competencies
Compassionate presence and strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to provide non-denominational, inclusive spiritual support.
Strong listening, empathy, and counselling skills.
Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
Organizational skills to coordinate volunteers and programming.
Sensitivity to cultural, spiritual, and religious diversity.
Working Conditions
Part-time contract position (approximately 3 days per week).
LTC and Retirement support
May involve emotional support during illness, grief, and end-of-life situations.
Some flexibility in scheduling may be required to support resident needs or spiritual services.
