Director, Capital Markets PMO

What is the opportunity?

You will play a pivotal role in enabling controlled and efficient delivery of change initiative outcomes in RBC Capital Markets (RBCCM). You will head up the primary PMO team, reporting to the Managing Director for Strategy & Performance Management within QTS, the technology organization of RBCCM. Your aim is to create value through transparency, control, effectiveness, efficiency and flexibility in the way that RBCCM change projects are initiated and then delivered.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain a deep understanding of the portfolio of change projects ongoing within RBCCM and related plans, progress, and key risks. Use this information to advise senior management on issues, risks, and recommended actions.
  • Refine, communicate, and enforce project‑management standards, processes, roles, and tools to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
  • Own key delivery‑governance activities and forums that monitor progress and assess risks for change projects.
  • Support investment governance by providing the Investment Review Board with high‑quality benefits cases and subsequent benefit reporting, including key risk indicators.
  • Assess project‑practitioner capabilities, identify development needs, and steward thriving practitioner communities.
  • Oversee a variety of PPM services, including setup and maintenance of projects in PPM systems and authorization of end‑users.

Qualifications – Must‑Have

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher with at least 10 years’ experience in professional project‑management roles.
  • Extensive knowledge of project‑management, Agile, Waterfall, change management, and business analysis methodologies.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, proven ability to communicate with senior management and manage challenging conversations.
  • Track record of success in managing a PMO, large cross‑enterprise projects, or portfolios with significant technical components and third‑party suppliers.
  • Team‑player mindset with the ability to work autonomously and manage others effectively.

Nice‑to‑Have

  • Certifications in project‑management frameworks (PMP, PMA, PRINCE2).
  • Certifications in Agile methods (SCRUM, SAFe).
  • Knowledge and skill in DevOps practices and tools.
