Campus Media Content Coordinator - 1 yr FT contract for upcoming McMaster graduates or co-op student

This is a FULL TIME, one-year contract. This position is also entitled to an extensive benefits package. Applicants must be a graduating full-time undergraduate student (taking 18 units or more) at the time of applying or have been an MSU member within the last 12 months. 

This role has opportunity for some hybrid work.

Reports to: CFMU Program Director, CFMU Administrative Director, and Silhouette Executive Editor  

Hours: 35 Hours per week

Contract term: May 1 - April 30

The Campus Media Content Coordinator (MCC) is responsible for producing, hosting, and managing multimedia content for CFMU Radio Inc., including field video production, on-air programming, and digital productions. The MCC develops engaging stories, covers news and community events, facilitates volunteer involvement, and supports administrative tasks for CFMU and The Silhouette.  

Major Duties and responsibilities:

Content Creation and Production

1. Field Production  

Working in-tandem with the Digital Media Specialist, create video content for Campus Media accounts (Tiktok, YouTube, Social Media etc.) that highlights news, events, and stories relevant to McMaster University, the MSU, and the surrounding Hamilton community.

The MCC will also work with the Campus Media team to facilitate scheduling videos with both internal and external partners. 

1. On-Air Programming  

Develop and host MorningFile once a week, including interviews, features, and news content for broadcast on CFMU 

1. Digital Productions  

Utilizing MorningFile interviews, develop features, and news content for publication in the Silhouette.  

Community Engagement and Event Coverage

• Attend press conferences, public meetings, and events to cover and develop stories for broadcast and digital platforms. 
  


• Engage with local organizations, student groups, and community members to create meaningful and impactful content. 
  


• Engage with members of Campus Media team to assist in creating cross-collaborative video content, leveraging topics from broadcast and print/digital. 

Administrative Support  

• Assist with tasks assigned by Program Director, Administrative Director, and Executive Editor including assisting with on-air support, scheduling programs,
  training volunteers, promotional initiatives, event planning, editing, layout, or other duties as assigned. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Interpersonal skills required to be able to interact effectively with individuals in a variety of roles, as contact with individuals, groups, and agencies is ongoing (i.e. staff, peers, students, government agencies, community members, and other external sources) 


• Excellent storytelling and journalistic skills, with a focus on multimedia production. 


• Willingness to learn about radio broadcast, print and video journalism 


• Ability to be trained on broadcast studio equipment, production studio equipment, video equipment and computer software such as the network, Wavelab, Excel, Adobe Suite, etc. 


• Strong organizational skills to prioritize tasks, manage conflicting deadlines, and keep an up-to-date content calendar in a fast-paced environment. 


• Must be able to work cooperatively in a team environment consisting of full-time, part-time, and volunteer staff 


• Must be flexible to change due to nature of a student-led environment 

Effort and Responsibilities:

• Manage competing priorities to produce high-quality content under tight deadlines.   


• Exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently or in collaboration with the supervisory team.  


• Be observant and identify opportunities for content creation and community engagement.  

Training and Experience:

• Recent McMaster graduate  


• Experience in video production, journalism, or digital content creation.  


• Background in community or campus media, or involvement in not-for-profit organizations, is an asset.  


• Familiarity with social media platforms and content strategies.  


• Additional training to be provided by Program Director, Executive Editor, and Administrative Director

• Some local travel required for field production and event coverage.
