The Opportunity
We are seeking a strategic and execution-focused Director of Supply Chain to lead end-to-end supply chain operations in a manufacturing environment specializing in metal parts fabrication. This role requires deep technical fluency, strong commercial acumen, and the ability to build resilient, cost-effective supplier networks. A mechanical engineering background is strongly preferred due to the technical complexity of the components and manufacturing processes involved.
The Director of Supply Chain will oversee procurement, strategic sourcing, supplier development, contract negotiation, production planning, inventory management, and quality alignment across the supply base.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute a comprehensive supply chain strategy aligned with operational and financial objectives.
- Lead sourcing initiatives for metal components, machined parts, fabricated assemblies, and related materials.
- Build long-term supplier partnerships while driving cost optimization, risk mitigation, and performance improvement.
- Establish KPIs to monitor supplier performance, cost efficiency, delivery reliability, and quality metrics.
Technical & Operational Oversight
- Evaluate and source metal fabrication suppliers including machining, welding, stamping, casting, and finishing processes.
- Interpret and review technical drawings, specifications, and GD&T to ensure supplier capability alignment.
- Collaborate closely with Engineering and Quality teams to support NPI (New Product Introduction) and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure suppliers adhere to established quality control systems and regulatory standards.
Contracting & Commercial Management
- Lead high-value contract negotiations, including pricing models, long-term agreements, and performance clauses.
- Manage supplier contracts to ensure compliance, cost competitiveness, and risk protection.
- Develop cost models and conduct should-cost analyses for fabricated and machined components.
Quality & Compliance
- Implement and maintain robust supplier quality management processes.
- Conduct supplier audits and capability assessments.
- Partner with Quality Assurance to manage corrective actions, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement programs.
- Build and lead a high-performing supply chain team.
- Develop succession planning and talent development strategies.
- Foster cross-functional collaboration across Engineering, Manufacturing, Finance, and Sales.

Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive experience in supply chain leadership within a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience sourcing metal fabricated and machined parts.
- Proven success in complex contract negotiations.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Strong understanding of quality control methodologies (e.g., ISO standards, Six Sigma, SPC, PPAP).
- Experience managing global supplier networks.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (strongly preferred).
- MBA or advanced degree in Supply Chain, Operations, or Engineering.
- Experience in vertically integrated or engineered-to-order manufacturing environments.
- Background in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
