Job Responsibility:
LIFE Recovery Association is a registered charity and Christian ministry that exists to support women in recovery from addiction. We provide abstinence-based programs in 4 homes in the Clearbrook Corridor of Abbotsford, BC. Thrift for LIFE and LIFE's Second Chance were developed to raise funds to subsidize program costs at LIFE. It is an extension of the ministry through its community outreach and volunteer engagement.
JOB SUMMARY - PRIMARY FOCUS
The Thrift Store Worker is a member of the LIFE team and is expected to reflect the values of our ministry. Supporting the day-to-day operations is the primary focus.
STATEMENT OF RELATIONSHIPS
The Thrift Store worker will work closely with the volunteers and other thrift store staff in the daily operations. Respectful relationships with customers, donors, volunteers, and LIFE staff are critical. Collaboration between stores and staff ensures that LIFE remains one ministry, working together to fulfill our mission.

JOB SUMMARY
The Thrift Store Worker provides support with the day-to-day operation of LIFE Recovery Association's thrift stores: LIFE's Second Chance and Thrift for LIFE. Maintaining the excellent reputation we have with customers and supporters, offering affordable goods, providing volunteer opportunities and generating the revenue necessary for LIFE Recovery Association's residential recovery homes is the primary focus.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide support to the daily operations including:
- Efficient, friendly customer service
- Accurate daily cash balancing
- Intake and sorting of thrift store donations
- Pricing and inventory control
- Managing displays and store cleaning
- Follow all WorkSafe BC, Employment Standards of BC, Fire Department and City of Abbotsford Bylaws and procedures to limit risk and liability
- Assist with volunteer management including orientation, training, scheduling and communication
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
1. Experience working in a Thrift Store is preferred however retail sales experience will be considered.
2. Proficient with all cashier responsibilities including daily cash balancing.
3. Able to lift and move items up to 25 kg.
4. Understanding thrift stores and how they support registered charities is an asset.
5. Experienced in using Retail Management software.
6. Knowledge of addiction, social issues and their impact to thrift store operations.
7. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
8. Demonstrated ability to deal with highly sensitive and confidential material and situations.
9. Accurate record keeping.
10. Proficient with Microsoft applications.
11. Basic First Aid Training Certificate or willingness to obtain it.
12. Current Class 5 Drivers License (minimum)
13. Sobriety of at least TWO years ie., no abuse of alcohol, drugs or other mood-altering chemicals.
14. A reputation of living a lifestyle that honors and glorifies God.
15. The incumbent must regularly attend and participate in their home church (Heb 10:24-25)
Hours of work: Usual days of work will be Monday and/or Thursday and/or Friday and/or Saturday for a maximum of 24-32 hours weekly and scheduled monthly
The wage range is $18.00- $22.00 per hour based on experience and education.
