Job Summary:
A summer camp kitchen assistant is responsible for supporting the head cook in providing meals for campers and staff during the summer camp program. They are responsible for assisting with meal preparation, cleaning and organizing the kitchen and appliances, and ensuring that all food is stored and prepared safely. In addition, kitchen assistants perform general cleaning and maintaining meal records. A primary function of this and every other job at the camp is to ensure that each member, guest, and visitor receives the highest caliber of service.
Responsibilities:
- Be an effective role model to campers and This includes but is not limited to:
- Living the vision, mission and values of Scouts Canada
- Respectful treatment of all campers/staff
- Compliance with all rules/regulations
- Appropriate communication and interactions prior to, during and after camp
- Maintaining a clean & safe work/living environment and general behaviour throughout the employment period
- Displaying enthusiasm for activities, personal cleanliness, dress, speech, manners, and positive relations with campers/staff.
- Assist the head cook with meal preparation
- Ensure cleanliness of food preparation and delivery areas
- Follow health department regulations pertaining to safe food practice
- Assist in weekly deep cleaning of specific areas in the kitchen, e.g., floors, vent hoods, etc.; rotating stock when new orders are checked in; preparing all meals on time as scheduled or assigned by the director and in keeping accurate incident logs
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Completes Scouts Canada screening process including a clear Police Records Check, with Vulnerable sector check and all required training by the date provided by the Camp Director
- Experience working in a kitchen environment
- Capacity to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
- Capability to meet the physical demands of the job (strength and stamina to follow strenuous activities like hiking, running, crouching or carrying children)
- First aid- and CPR-certified preferred
- High school diploma
