Steel Fabrication Estimator / Project Manager
We are seeking a versatile professional to oversee and prepare steel fabrication projects from estimation through project completion. The ideal candidate will be responsible for estimating new projects, producing technical drawings, and managing fabrication projects while ensuring coordination, scheduling, and profitability. A strong understanding of CWB processes and CSA requirements is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Estimation
Review drawings, specifications, and addenda to confirm project scope and identify contractual risks
Perform quantity take-offs and obtain, evaluate, and compare supplier/subcontractor quotations
Prepare material lists for purchasing and production planning
Develop detailed cost estimates, including labour, equipment, direct/indirect costs, and profit margins
Drafting & Detailing
Prepare shop drawings and erection plans using industry-standard software such as AutoCAD
Create and revise drawings in accordance with project specifications and quoted scope
Apply weld symbols and welding requirements in compliance with CSA W59 and company CWB standards
Project Management
Develop and maintain fabrication schedules to meet project deadlines
Source and order materials/components in line with production milestones and CSA/CWB requirements
Act as the primary liaison between the fabrication shop and project stakeholders
Manage RFIs, change orders, and project closeout documentation
Maintain quality documentation, including welder qualifications, WPS/WPQR records, and CWB data sheets
Required Qualifications
3-5+ years of experience in the steel fabrication industry, including both technical and office-based responsibilities
Strong knowledge of CSA W47.1 and W59 standards
Experience with welding procedures and coordination with inspectors is considered an asset
Advanced proficiency in CAD/3D modeling software and Microsoft Excel
T.S.S., C.E.T., or equivalent experience in structural steel or metal fabrication
