SCHOOLSPLUS INTEGRATED SERVICE REGIONAL COORDINATOR DESCRIPTION

Program/Service Overview

SchoolsPlus (SP) provides preventative, proactive programming as well as interventions for students at risk.  The vision of SchoolsPlus is for schools to become centres of service delivery enabling enhanced collaboration by bringing professionals and programs together to help children, youth, and families.  SchoolsPlus promotes an integrated service delivery model through co-location and/or partnership of services within a school such as Community Services, Justice, Mental Health, Addiction Services, Health, and other community groups.

 Role

The SchoolsPlus Integrated Services Regional Coordinator works within CCRCE and the Strait Regional Centre for Education to support and enhance the SchoolsPlus Integrated Service Delivery (ISD) model, to promote the well-being of students and their families.  This position works directly with SchoolsPlus/Integrated Services staff at the Department of Education and Early Childhood to provide leadership across the region to effectively support the SchoolsPlus model and service expansion across the province. This position is key to the SchoolsPlus/Integrated Services leadership teams at provincial and regional levels.  The SchoolsPlus Integrated Service (SP/IS) Regional Coordinator reports to the Director of Programs and Student Services in CCRCE with a dotted line relationship to the Director of Programs and Student Services in the SRCE along with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Director of SchoolsPlus and Integrated Service at EECD.

Key Responsibilities

• Utilizing community capacity building principles, build a local presence and enhance ‘on the ground’ relationships with service providers and children, youth and families.
• Work directly with the provincial SP team and liaise with regional government department staff to support and promote integrated service delivery across the regions. Strengthen community partnerships and capacity building within and across regions.
• Provide professional practice leadership for SchoolsPlus Facilitators in the regions in collaboration with RCE/CSAP administrative leads for the SP programs and services.
• Manage issues that emerge in their respective RCEs/CSAP and help SP staff navigate the system and services.  Develop and manage regional work plans in alignment with SchoolsPlus strategic plan.
• Lead and actively participate in the SchoolsPlus Regional Advisory Committees (RACs) as well as in regular provincial SchoolsPlus/Integrated Services team meetings.
• Evaluate and monitor progress markers and conduct needs assessments annually within their respective RCEs/CSAP.  Review monthly reports for the hub sites they support, identify trends and concerns to address at the regional or Provincial level.  Engage in regional evaluation and contribute to cross systems/inter-departmental reporting.
• Engage with service users (students and caregivers) through RAC sub-committees. Occasionally hold focus groups with students, families and community leaders involved in intensive wrap around services to provide a feedback loop for service fidelity and enhancement.
• Identify trends and positive examples of innovation solutions that can be shared provincially. Identify gaps, issues at the local level, working with partners to collaborate, share resources, and close the gaps. Identify issues as they arise, that need cross cutting solutions, bringing them to the Provincial team for discussion and resolution.
• Leverage a youth development approach to assist youth to communicate locally, regionally and at a policy level on youth identified needs and system challenges.Support child wellbeing through youth led regional advisory work.
• Assist in the implementation of provincial and national strategies i.e human exploitation, inclusive education policy, poverty reduction, mental health anti-stigma, wellbeing, etc. Coordinate and deliver professional learning to regional staff and oversee fidelity of practice.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications  

• Masters of Social Work Degree (or equivalent)
• Registration or eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia Association of Social Workers
• Minimum of five (5) years related experience.
• Minimum of two (2) years successful experience in a supervisory/leadership role.
• Demonstrated ability to engage and connect with children, youth, their families and community partners through culturally responsive/inclusive practices and approaches.
• Successful demonstrated experience in developing and/or fostering inter-agency relationships.
• Written and oral proficiency in the use of both French and English is preferred.
• Written and oral proficiency in the use of both Mi’kmaw and English language will be considered an asset.

Expected Competencies:

• Professional social work experience in integrated service delivery and direct service delivery to children, youth, and families, including those with complex needs.
• Familiarity and knowledge of the Nova Scotia public school system, Community Services, Justice, Health and community-based supports and services.
• Capability to develop strategies, operational plans, budgets and supervise funding utilization to ensure efficient and effective allocation and utilization of resources; ability to evaluate impact of programs and services.
• Ability to keep accurate records, maintain confidentiality and support case management.
• Ability to work independently and to work collaboratively with various service providers, leadership teams, parents/caregivers.
• Excellent interpersonal (written, oral and electronic) communication skills (preference given to those who can communicate in both English and French).
• Ability to prioritize competing demands and organize workplans to address these with minimum supervision.
• Demonstrated experience in group facilitation and working with Advisory Committees.
• Demonstrated ability to engage and work with diverse communities and equity seeking groups as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Ability to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the position.
• Valid Driver’s License /access to a reliable vehicle as travel throughout the Region will be required.

SALARY:                                                                          Non-Union Pay Band 12 ($4,204.22 to $5,255.26 bi-weekly)
