Water Treatment Operator / General Labourer
The Village of Fraser Lake is seeking a permanent full-time Water Treatment Operator to join its Public Works Department. The successful candidate will possess the necessary education, training, and certifications for the position, including, at minimum, a Level I Water Treatment Operator certification or the ability to obtain the required certification within a reasonable timeframe.
Working Conditions:
- 40 Hour Work Week - Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30AM to 4:00PM, with a half hour unpaid lunch.
- Primary areas of work will be within the Water Treatment Plant located at 305 Molyood Drive and at the Public Works Yard (31Tunasa Crescent).
- Occasionally, it will be expected that the employee will travel out of town and potentially over night to attend training or conferences.
- Upon successful completion of the applicable training, the employee will be expected to be prepared to be on call after hours and will be compensated with the current on call wage.
- The Village will be conducting a compensation review and rates may be increased for 2027,
Benefits & Compensation
- The position is being offered at level two to level six of the Public Works pay scale offered between $31.92 to $40.97 per hour (2026 Wage Scale).
- You will be enrolled into a comprehensive benefits package, including extended health, dental, Life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, and dependent life insurance coverage upon completion of 3 month probationary period.
- Paid sick Leave accrues at a rate of 1.5 days per month of employment, to a maximum accumulation of 100 days and accumulation begins at the employees hire date.
- The Village of Fraser Lake will remit the employer-required contributions for Canada Pension Plan (CPP), Employment Insurance (El), and WorkSafeBC (WCB) premiums.
- Any applicable taxable benefits will be included in your payroll calculations in accordance with Legislative requirements.
- Two weeks (10 days) of paid vacation annually; during the first year, the days will be prorated based on your start date. Additional vacation time will be awarded in accordance with the Village vacation policy.
Primary Accountabilities
Water Treatment Duties
- Ensure safe and effective operation, monitoring, maintenance, and regulatory compliance of the Village's water treatment and distribution systems.
- Perform routine and regulatory water quality testing, analyze results, and adjust treatment processes to maintain optimal water quality standards.
- Maintain detailed operational records and prepare reports related to system performance, flows, chemical usage, and treatment activities.
- Assist in the planning and delivery of infrastructure upgrades, preventative maintenance programs, inspections, and emergency repairs.
- Monitor and troubleshoot treatment and distribution systems using SCADA and other operational control systems.
- Participate in a rotating 24/7 on-call schedule and respond to system failures, emergencies, and after-hours operational requirements.
General Labourer Duties
- Operate equipment such as lawnmowers, backhoes, and garbage trucks as required.
- Maintain cemetery grounds, include grave preparation and headstone placement.
- Assist with basic carpentry projects, including wall layout, concrete formwork, concrete mixing, and rough carpentry.
- Safely operate and maintain hand and power tools in accordance with workplace safety standards.
- Support construction projects through site preparation, setup, planning, and general Labour activities.
- Operate construction tools and equipment, including compactors, saws, air tools, and surveying equipment.
- Follow and promote safe work practices to protect workers and the public on alljob sites.
- Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on Village vehicles, equipment, and small engine tools, including oil changes, tire replacement, greasing, hose repairs, and blade maintenance.
- Successfully complete required training, orientations, and competency assessments before operating equipment independently.
- Participate in ongoing safety and equipment training to maintain operational competence and support a safe workplace.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations or their designate.
