Db2 & Cloud Migration Architect

As a
DB2 & Cloud Migration Architect, you will serve as the principal technical authority driving the end-to-end modernization of our enterprise data tier. Operating with
10+ years of deep database engineering expertise, you will assess complex legacy on-premises IBM DB2 environments and design resilient, highly available target-state cloud architectures on AWS or Azure. This role bridges the gap between classic enterprise database infrastructure and modern, code-driven cloud automation.
Architecture Governance:
Define, document, and enforce global IBM DB2 database architectures, engineering standards, and target cloud landing zones.
Environment Assessment:
Conduct deep-dive technical evaluations of existing DB2 environments-analyzing schemas, stored procedures, execution performance, and application dependencies.
Resilience & HA/DR Design:
Architect zero-downtime, highly available database topologies covering HADR, advanced replication, stringent RPO/RTO parameters, and disaster recovery.
Performance Optimization:
Lead advanced DB2 performance tuning, query/SQL execution optimization, capacity planning, and tier-3 database troubleshooting.
Cloud Migration Strategy:
Design comprehensive source-to-target migration frameworks leveraging Rehost, Replatform, Refactor, and Modernize blueprints to transition DB2 workloads onto cloud engines (e.G., Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, AWS RDS/Aurora, or cloud-hosted DB2).
Execution & Lifecycle Management:
Author comprehensive migration runbooks (covering sync, validation, cutover, rollback, and hypercare) and lead cross-functional DevOps, cloud, and security teams through production cutovers.
Database Automation:
Infuse modern DevOps practices into data management by automating infrastructure provisioning and deployment pipelines using modern CI/CD tooling.
Required Technical Competencies
Experience:
10+ years of dedicated database engineering and enterprise architecture experience with a primary focus on
IBM DB2 .
Cloud Modernization:
Proven, hands-on track record migrating legacy database footprints to public cloud target environments ( AWS or Microsoft Azure ).
Target Architectures:
High proficiency evaluating target cloud engines, including AWS RDS/Aurora, Azure SQL, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, or DB2 hosted directly on cloud VM infrastructures (IaaS).
HA/DR Mechanisms:
Deep technical execution of
DB2 HADR, replication technologies, backup validation, and architectural alignment with strict enterprise RPO/RTO mandates.
Database Automation & CI/CD:
Hands-on experience developing infrastructure as code and automated data deployment workflows using tools such as
Terraform, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Ansible, PowerShell, or Python .
