Aecon Industrial provides its clients with a vertically integrated solution, self-performing all disciplines of work.

The Senior Project Coordinator is a seasoned construction professional who plays a key leadership role in the planning, coordination, and execution of large-scale industrial projects. Supporting Aecon Industrial’s delivery of the Dow Chemical Path2Zero Project, this position serves as a critical link between Construction, Engineering, Procurement, Project Controls, Quality, and Client teams to ensure safe, efficient, and successful project execution.

With a strong focus on mechanical and piping scopes, the Senior Project Coordinator is responsible for driving project coordination activities, leading junior project personnel, supporting field execution strategies, managing stakeholder interfaces, and proactively resolving project issues. The ideal candidate brings significant industrial construction experience and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment.

Please Note:

  • This is a site-based position based in Fort Saskatchewan, AB.
  • The schedule consists of 10 consecutive working days, with 4 consecutive days off. Hours of work are set at 10 hours per day.

What You'll Do Here:

  • Lead the coordination and execution of mechanical and piping construction scopes, ensuring alignment between engineering, procurement, quality, project controls, and construction teams.
  • Act as a key liaison between Aecon, client representatives, subcontractors, vendors, and project stakeholders to facilitate project delivery.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to Project Coordinators and junior project staff.
  • Support Project Managers and Construction Managers in planning, forecasting, resource coordination, risk mitigation, and execution strategy development.
  • Lead procurement coordination activities, including review and tracking of purchase requisitions, material status reporting, expediting, and delivery management.
  • Monitor and coordinate material management processes to ensure critical mechanical and piping materials are available to support construction schedules.
  • Oversee project reporting activities, including progress tracking, productivity analysis, earned value metrics, forecasting, and executive reporting.
  • Review and interpret construction drawings, isometrics, specifications, work packages, and 3D models to support field execution and constructability.
  • Coordinate drawing reviews, document control processes, technical queries, and distribution of project information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support development and maintenance of detailed project schedules, progress measurement systems, and look-ahead planning activities.
  • Participate in project meetings with client, engineering, construction, and subcontractor teams, ensuring action items are tracked and completed.
  • Utilize SAP to support project administration, procurement tracking, material management, cost reporting, and project documentation requirements.
  • Utilize Navisworks and other digital construction tools to support model reviews, clash detection activities, and field planning.
  • Support project controls activities including change management, quantity tracking, cost forecasting, and performance analysis.
  • Identify project risks, constraints, and opportunities and proactively develop mitigation strategies to minimize impacts to project execution.
  • Support turnover planning, system completions, and commissioning readiness activities for assigned scopes.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, logs, registers, and records in accordance with project and corporate requirements.
  • Promote and support Aecon's commitment to safety, quality, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline. Equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
  • 7+ years of experience supporting large industrial construction projects, with a strong emphasis on mechanical, electrical, and piping scopes.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting complex projects exceeding $100M in value within oil and gas, petrochemical, energy, or heavy industrial environments.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and piping construction practices, including piping fabrication, installation, testing, turnover, and commissioning processes.
  • Proven ability to lead project coordination activities and provide mentorship to junior project personnel.
  • Experience working directly with clients, contractors, engineering teams, vendors, and subcontractors in a large project environment.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement, project controls, scheduling, cost control, document control, and construction execution processes.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and coordinate construction drawings, P&IDs, isometrics, specifications, and 3D models.
  • Experience utilizing SAP, Navisworks, and other construction management systems in support of project execution.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including reporting, dashboards, data analysis, forecasting, and project tracking.
  • Proficiency with Primavera P6 and schedule coordination is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities with the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and drive results with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness and ability to work in a site-based environment and support project execution requirements.
