The Department of Health and Social Services works under the direction of the Minister and Deputy Minister, in partnership with the Health and Social Services Authorities, to support the health and wellbeing of people across the NWT through planning, development, evaluation and reporting on program and service delivery.

Job Information

Reporting to the Chief Health Privacy Officer, the Senior Privacy Specialist will lead the development and implementation of privacy and security related policies, procedures, and safeguard measures affecting all employees and contractors of the Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) who use or manage personal health information (PHI) in an electronic format, and all employees and contractors of the Health and Social Services Authorities (HSSAs) who use territory-wide health information systems.

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

A Bachelor's degree in public administration, information management, business or a related discipline with five (5) years of directly related experience working in the field of health privacy. Certification as a privacy or security professional, such as the following, considered an asset:

• Certified Information Privacy Professional/Canada (CIPP/C) - International Association of Privacy Professionals;
• Associate, Chartered or Master Access and Privacy Professional (AAPP, CAPP or MAPP)
• Canadian Association of Professional Access and Privacy Administrators); or
• Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) - International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium.
