We are hiring a f ull- t ime , p ermanent Specialist , Regulatory Compliance position working out of Edmonton, AB .

As t he Regulatory Compliance Specialist , you are accountable for the compliance monitoring and oversight over EPCOR Transmission’s Reliability Standards Compliance Program, including providing compliance advisory and project management services to various internal stakeholders on regulatory compliance regulations and requirements on AESO, Alberta Reliability Standards . You remain up to date on current standards and compliance requirements for all Transmission operating facilities and contribute to the due diligence process on business development opportunities. The role also reviews and assesses compliance evidence for completeness and formatting, with consideration for evidence storage and audit preparation. In addition to managing requirements of future mandates, you will contribute to policy initiatives either by leading or by participating as a subject matter expert.
This position reports to and works closely with the Associate Director, Regulatory Affairs.
What You’d Be Responsible For
- Leading EPCOR Distribution & Transmission Inc. (EDTI) Transmission’s Reliability Standards Compliance Program
- Developing compliance programs for various standards and modifying existing programs when needed to meet new requirements and working with internal stakeholders for implementation . Providing recommendations on budgeting and resourcing, as required
- Collaborating with EPCOR Regulatory and supporting subject matter experts to develop EDTI Transmission’s annual Compliance Program. Advising on the Compliance Program to promote and support compliance ownership with EDTI Transmission employees
- Ensuring an understanding of EPCOR’s strategy in EDTI and throughout regulatory compliance ; l eading various programs within the broader regulatory compliance framework.
- Reviewing reliability standards (CIP, COM, FAC, PRC, etc.) rules and requirements to determine applicability to EDTI Transmission’s current fleet of assets or potential sites
- D etermining how revisions and updates to the standards can impact the Transmission Long Term Plan and related operations
- Supporting EPCOR Regulatory’s Dynamic Compliance Risk process in the areas of Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) and non-CIP regulatory requirements, performing gap analysis on risk areas trending upwards and take corrective action to mitigate those trends
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders to develop an annual communication and training plan and highlighting areas of risk. Leading various training opportunities to ensure employees are aware of potential non-compliance risks
- Acting as a subject matter expert to advise Operations on current rules and standards. Providing guidance to supporting teams (i.e., Engineering, Asset Management, Project Management, etc.) on how implementation of compliance requirements on both current and future standards can potentially impact Operations
- Leading investigations on non-compliance events . This includes conducting root cause analysis, develop ing and implement ing plans to mitigate future occurrence , and p roviding recommendations to partner areas on resolving non-compliance events, as required
- Developing and implementing risk mitigation strategies to ensure compliance requirements are met and coaching various internal stakeholders on events, activities, and best practices to ensure compliance, as the need arises
- Developing and maintaining business unit KPIs for compliance related metrics. Participating in or drive cross-functional teams to design and maintain dashboards to support EDTI’s compliance posture. Recommending or implementing changes to evidence storage and transportation for compliance and auditing purposes .
What’s required to be successful
- Degree in Engineering, Science , or equivalencies
- Designation as a Professional Engineer (or Professional Licensee) would be considered an asset
- 7 + years of work experience in the electric utility sector
- 3+ years in a regulatory compliance role
- Experience performing CIP or ARS assurance work (audits/reviews), and business risk assessments as they relate to NERC and the AESO
- Project management experience would be considered an asset
As the successful Regulatory Compliance Specialist, you possess a keen understanding of regulatory requirements and use this knowledge in the regulatory context that EDTI Transmission operates. You are an effective communicator in both written and verbal formats. You comfortably present information in a meaningful way , while ensuring that information is appropriate to audiences at various levels (e.g. senior or executive management ) . You are a team player and work well with a variety of stakeholders. You use your Compliance know-how to prioritize while managing multiple tasks and projects. Similarly, you have an ability to pivot to new requirements and asks, as required. You take pride in the work you do.
