CIMA+ is currently looking for an ElectricalSubstation Engineer. To be successful in this role you will have a strong understanding of the engineering environment in electrical design of High Voltage/Medium Voltage substations for Utilities and industrial clients and will be working with multi-disciplinary teams to design in accordance with clients’ requirements and applicable codes and standards. This is a hybrid position that will be based out of one of our offices in Western Canada.
Primary Responsibilities
Lead development of preliminary and detailed design drawings (e.G. SLD, general arrangements, elevations, installation details,etc) for HV and MV substations for Utilities and industrial installations;
Perform/Reviewelectrical calculations and equipment sizing for various electrical equipment such as power transformers, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, busbars, etc.;
Perform/Reviewsizing calculation of power cable and cable tray/trenches routing design;
Prepare technical reports and equipment specifications (HV and MV equipment) for procurement;
Review of manufacturers’ equipment drawings;
Design and calculation of AC and DC auxiliary systems including single line diagram, load calculations, distribution drawings, voltage drop calculations, battery sizing. etc;

Develop schedules and engineering cost estimates for proposals;
Produce/Reviewbills of materials;
Perform site visits tovalidatescope requirements anddetermineexisting conditions, inspect construction prepare site survey reports, andparticipatein commissioning activities (occasionally)
Liaise with clients, regulatory authorities, and utilities
Ensure designs conform to all applicable codes, client standards and CIMA’s quality management system
Coordinate with other disciplines and stakeholders either internal or external
Assistin training junior staff
Perform andassistwithadditionalduties and tasks based on project requirements
Collaborate with the client's engineering team in addressing challenging, complex, or unusual engineering issues, providing solutions-oriented support to effectively manage and mitigate engineering risks.
Profile
6 +years of experience in electrical layout, preferably with largeCanadianUtilities
Abachelordegree diploma in electrical engineering (power system specialization preferred).
Professional registered member of Engineer and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC)orhave the ability toregister.
Advanced experience with electrical design for electric utility substations
Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code,IEEEand Canadian Utility standards
Valid Canadian Driver’s License
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English;
Knowledge of French is an asset
Excellentproblem solvingskills, capability to work independently and in a team, detail oriented, and self-motivated
Client focused and flexible to respond to short notice assignments and toproject basedclient demands
Ability to manage and mentor junior engineers and technologists
