Job Description

Medical Lab Technologists provide accurate and timely interpretive and diagnostic specimen testing and reporting. Through accuracy, quality, efficiency, and expediting test results, you will contribute to patient well‑being and the achievement of better health outcomes.

Position Type : Temporary, Full Time (37.5 hours per week)
End Date : 1 year upon the start date
Shift : Overnight Shift, 23:00 - 7:00

Union : Part of the OPSEU LAB collective agreement (existing position)

Your responsibilities will include:

• Conducting a wide range of diagnostic and interpretive specimen testing.
• Preparing and processing samples, ensuring accurate labeling and documentation.
• Performing, interpreting, and releasing results while ensuring the confidentiality of patient information.
• Identifying incidents and non-conformities, participating in the development of effective corrective action plans, escalating as appropriate and driving continuous improvement.
• Assisting with the evaluation and implementation of new technology.
• Participating in problem solving in work organization and workflow.
• Adhering to laboratory safety protocols and maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
• Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and quality assurance standards.

What you will bring to the role:

• College diploma or university degree in Medical Laboratory Science, or equivalent education and/or experience.
• Registered with the CMLTO in good standing.
• Excellent communication skills to relate with a wide variety of people.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced team environment while adhering to LifeLabs standards of safety, accuracy, and efficiency.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail with a demonstration of curiosity.
• Ability to distinguish multiple colors.
• Strong computer skills in MS Office products and laboratory analyzers.
• Problem‑solving skills, including the ability to identify and follow‑up on issues.
• Ability to maintain the strictest standards of safety, patient privacy, and confidentiality.
