Job Responsibilities

• Maintains friendly, efficient, positive customer service demeanor toward customers, clients, and co-workers. Is adaptable to customer needs.
• Maintains all assigned ancillary and department areas and corridors in a clean neat and sanitary manner, to protect safety and health of others and in compliance with accurate preventative maintenance procedures as outlined in department policy.
• Inspects and uses judgment in determining which cleaning techniques outlined in orientation guidelines to follow.
• Demonstrates efficient and safe use of housekeeping equipment and solutions as observed by supervisor.
• May disinfect and sterilize equipment and supplies, using germicides and sterilizing equipment.
• Diligently employs universal precautions when disposing of trash and bio-hazardous materials.
• Keeps cart properly stocked with equipment and cleaning supplies; ensures all chemicals are accurately labeled, and all equipment is in good working condition.
• Promotes effective interpersonal and interdisciplinary relationships, maintains professional conduct at all times.
• Assists in improving productivity and efficient operations of the department.
• Demonstrates commitment to professional growth and competence by adherence to component and departmental training commitments.

Qualifications

• Past cleaning experience preferred
• Attention to detail

This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

GENERAL POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Housekeeper and Laundry Aide is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout the facility while supporting laundry operations. This role includes cleaning and disinfecting assigned areas, handling laundry collection and distribution, operating housekeeping and laundry equipment, and ensuring compliance with infection prevention, occupational health and safety, and organizational policies. The position is performed with a strong focus on resident dignity, customer service, and operational excellence.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintain a clean and organized work environment following Infection Prevention and Control practices.
• Clean and disinfect assigned resident rooms, common areas, washrooms, and workspaces according to established standards.
• Operate housekeeping equipment including vacuums, floor machines, and burnishers safely and effectively.
• Wash walls, ceilings, windows, and high-touch surfaces as required.
• Complete floor care duties including scrubbing, stripping, recoating, and carpet shampooing where applicable.
• Collect, transport, sort, wash, dry, fold, and distribute laundry items according to established procedures.
• Operate washers, dryers, scales, heat presses, and other laundry equipment safely.
• Inspect equipment before use and report unsafe or malfunctioning equipment to management immediately.
• Maintain inventory levels for housekeeping and laundry supplies and report shortages to management.
• Label, date, and store products using the First In, First Out procedure.
• Complete all required logs, inspections, and documentation accurately.
• Follow safe chemical handling procedures and use all required PPE.
• Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and respectful communication with residents, visitors, and coworkers.
• Attend mandatory training sessions, meetings, and orientation programs.
• Assist with receiving, storing, and replenishing products and supplies.
• Demonstrate initiative, teamwork, and flexibility in a fast-paced environment.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

EDUCATION AND SPECIFIC TRAINING:

• Ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, lift, push, pull, bend, kneel, and reach throughout the shift.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Knowledge of infection prevention, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.
• Ability to operate housekeeping and laundry equipment safely.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Must provide a clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
• Must provide required vaccination documentation as per site requirements.
• Previous housekeeping or laundry experience in healthcare or hospitality is considered an asset.

EXPERIENCE:

Previous experience in housekeeping, environmental services, laundry operations, or healthcare support services is preferred. Training will be provided for suitable candidates.

WORKING CONDITIONS OF JOB (Occupational CONDITIONS OF JOB, NOT REFERENCES TO A PARTICULAR SETTING):

• Exposure to heat, steam, hazardous chemicals, refrigeration and freezer temperatures, wet floors

1. Scheduled Work Week:

• In accordance with union agreement. Shifts as follows: 7:00-3:00, 11:00-7:00.
