About the role
Gowans appreciate that running a successful farming business isn't just about production; it's also about protecting operating margins and capitalizing on opportunities that increase the viability of our client's operation in an increasingly competitive marketplace. Gowans' combined team expertise allows us to perform a detailed business analysis to identify both production and financial constraints to greater profitability. This includes an in-depth look at production levels and costs, sales opportunities, and sources of capital. We run margin models & projections to provide buying/selling recommendations according to our client's financial goals. We also benchmark operation's current output and profitability levels against similar enterprises and help to implement measures to make farm business more competitive.
The Team:
We are a diverse team with people working within different fields, such as animal nutrition, business development, market analysis, feed ingredient procurement & risk management.
Responsibilities:
We are looking for a person with passion for risk management, market analysis and research. The analyst will perform a wide variety of tasks, such as:
· Feed ingredient procurement across Canada
· Provide buying & selling recommendations/strategies
· Engage with customers and develop new customers
· Prepare presentations and market reports to talk about market trends
· Data collection, analysis and development of customized margin models to help our clients to make decisions
· Market projections and hedging analysis
What we are looking for:
· Experience in agribusiness, risk management, trade and pricing strategies
· Experience on futures & options and hedging strategies
· Experience on grains/proteins/hog markets
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Strong customer mindset
· Strong Excel skills
· Analytical thinking
· Relationship building
Qualifications
· Graduate Degree in Agribusiness or Economics
· Minimum 2 years work experience in risk management and/or commodity procurement
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
· Understanding of Canadian Hog, Cattle & Grain Markets
· Fluent in English
Location
· Gowans and its affiliates has offices in Waterloo ON, Lethbridge AB & Wainwright AB
· Gowans may also consider a remote option in Canada within reasonable commuting distance from a major airport.
Travel Requirements
· Relationship building, presentations and business development require in person contact with clients that are located across the country. Expectation would be for 25 - 30% overnight travel.

Our practice is evidence based, with an emphasis on science and research rather than tradition or convention.
Our company focus is on improving net returns for our clients' farms. We achieve this by providing an a) independently based nutrition program which maximizes income above feed and operating costs; b) applying our expertise in proper ingredient selection, quality control and feed manufacturing to decrease overall feeding and production costs. We are also involved on feed ingredient procurement, communicating with our clients good buying & selling opportunities, along with helping them to better analyze and increase their projected margin.
