Jr. Planner

Opportunity

The Jr. Planner supports effective project delivery by developing and maintaining project schedules, tracking progress, and providing reliable schedule analysis to the project team. This role requires strong analytical skills and close coordination with multidisciplinary teams in a fast‑paced environment. The position is part of the Hamilton LRT Alliance, working collaboratively with design, cost, and construction teams during the development phase of the Hamilton LRT – Package 1: Civil & Utilities.

Responsibilities

• Perform and/or coordinate, collect, verify, and integrate work scope for all entities into the total project plan.
• Review representation of project scope in schedules.
• Develop and maintain all required project schedules and ensure data integrity across the entire project life cycle.
• Create and implement key scheduling requirements such as bespoke activity coding, naming conventions, client requirements management protocol, project calendars, and resource and plant data libraries.
• Support resource planning and analysis, forecasting the requirement of labor, materials, and equipment based on front‑end analysis.
• Perform productivity analysis of construction operations and verify accordingly.
• Establish productivity basis to be utilized in estimates and review labor estimates for reasonableness.
• Prepare required progress reports and dashboards to provide project status updates to all internal and external clients.
• Analyze schedule variance, float, and trending and monitor schedule KPIs.
• Develop progress measurement process and analyze progress and performance data.
• Manage schedule change notices and forecast project impact; implement corrective action when performance trends deviate from baseline.
• Perform audits on various schedules, including those produced by subcontractors, and prepare all required output documents.
• Collaborate with all cross‑functional teams to maintain, add, or modify schedule data and plans.
• Support schedule 5D integration process with the 3D model and cost, and report outputs that include cash flow and sequence simulations.
• Create and maintain a collaborative culture that is open, inclusive, and respectful.
• Supervise, develop, and mentor project controls personnel (e.g., project planners and planning coordinators).

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Business, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 1‑3 years of planning experience on civil infrastructure major projects.
• Proven experience and ability in planning, scheduling, and managing complex projects.
• Problem‑solving skills with sound judgment who accepts ownership and accountability.
• Expert level knowledge of project planning and scheduling software such as Primavera P6 and TILOS.
• Knowledge of SAP, Hard Dollar, PowerBI, and Synchro is an asset.

Pay Range

$70,000‑$80,000
