Estate Planning Specialist, Wealth Management

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Estate Planning Specialist, Wealth Management based in Canada. This is a newly created specialist role focused on strengthening estate planning support for high-net-worth wealth management clients across Canada. You will review wills, trusts, insurance policies, and broader estate structures to determine whether they align with each client's goals. The role combines deep technical expertise with clear, client-friendly communication and practical recommendations. You will work closely with advisors, legal professionals, tax specialists, and external partners to help clients address identified gaps. As the first person in this function, you will also design the processes, frameworks, and workflows that define how estate planning support is delivered. The position offers an opportunity to combine established estate-planning expertise with an AI-enabled, forward-looking approach to wealth management. Accountabilities: - Review existing wills, trust documents, and broader estate plans to determine whether their structure and provisions align with clients' objectives. - Identify gaps, inconsistencies, and potential planning opportunities within complex estate arrangements and explain findings in clear, accessible language. - Translate estate-planning findings into practical next steps and connect clients with appropriate resources, including qualified legal professionals and documentation partners. - Apply advanced knowledge of trusts, including their structures, taxation considerations, and applications across complex, multi-entity estates. - Review existing insurance policies as part of the broader estate-planning assessment and evaluate how they support or interact with the client's estate objectives. - Serve as an internal subject-matter expert for advisors, providing guidance on complex estate-planning cases and supporting client discussions.

- Participate in sophisticated client-facing conversations alongside advisors, helping clients understand estate-planning considerations and recommended next steps. - Build the estate review and planning function from the ground up, including processes, workflows, standards, and integration with existing tax and family-enterprise services. - Collaborate with wealth management leadership and other specialist teams to establish a scalable approach to estate planning for high-net-worth clients. - Use AI-enabled tools to accelerate document review, model scenarios, identify relevant planning considerations, and improve the quality and efficiency of client support. - Maintain a strong client-first approach, focusing on identifying needs and connecting clients with appropriate solutions rather than selling financial or insurance products. Requirements: - 5+ years of professional experience in estate planning, trusts and estates law, or a closely related wealth management advisory function. - Legal background with hands-on experience reviewing or drafting wills, trusts, and related estate-planning documents. - TEP designation is strongly preferred. - Deep practical understanding of trust structures, taxation, and use cases within complex estates. - Working knowledge of insurance policies and the ability to assess their relevance within an overall estate plan; this role does not involve insurance sales or insurance product advisory. - Demonstrated ability to identify estate-planning gaps and translate complex findings into clear, actionable recommendations for clients. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain legal, tax, trust, and estate concepts effectively to both advisors and clients. - Strong judgment and attention to detail when reviewing sophisticated estate structures and documentation.
