Upholstery is the art of making and repairing furniture's padding, springs, webbing, and fabrics. It requires a skilled individual who can interpret design sketches, select fabrics, and cut and sew materials to create beautiful and functional furniture. They also need to have a keen eye for detail and be able to work with a variety of tools and equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Measure and cut fabric or leather to the appropriate size and shape for the furniture piece
- Sew fabric or leather pieces together using a sewing machine or by hand stitching to create upholstery
- Attach padding and cushions to furniture frames using staples, tacks, or adhesives
- Install finished upholstery onto furniture frames and ensure it is properly stretched and secured
- Inspect finished upholstery for quality and make any necessary repairs or adjustments
Requirements:
- Experience in upholstery work, including cutting, sewing, and assembling materials
- Ability to work with a variety of fabrics, including leather, vinyl, and canvas
- Knowledge of different types of foam and padding used in upholstery
- Attention to detail and ability to work with precision to ensure a high-quality finished product
- Ability to read and interpret upholstery blueprints and diagrams
- Familiarity with upholstery tools and equipment, including sewing machines, staple guns, and foam cutters
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
- Physical stamina and ability to stand for long periods of time and lift heavy objects
