Upholstery is the art of making and repairing furniture's padding, springs, webbing, and fabrics. It requires a skilled individual who can interpret design sketches, select fabrics, and cut and sew materials to create beautiful and functional furniture. They also need to have a keen eye for detail and be able to work with a variety of tools and equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Measure and cut fabric or leather to the appropriate size and shape for the furniture piece
  • Sew fabric or leather pieces together using a sewing machine or by hand stitching to create upholstery
  • Attach padding and cushions to furniture frames using staples, tacks, or adhesives
  • Install finished upholstery onto furniture frames and ensure it is properly stretched and secured
  • Inspect finished upholstery for quality and make any necessary repairs or adjustments

Requirements:

  • Experience in upholstery work, including cutting, sewing, and assembling materials
  • Ability to work with a variety of fabrics, including leather, vinyl, and canvas
  • Knowledge of different types of foam and padding used in upholstery
  • Attention to detail and ability to work with precision to ensure a high-quality finished product
  • Ability to read and interpret upholstery blueprints and diagrams
  • Familiarity with upholstery tools and equipment, including sewing machines, staple guns, and foam cutters
  • Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
  • Physical stamina and ability to stand for long periods of time and lift heavy objects
