The Tug Master is a highly skilled professional responsible for safely operating and maneuvering tugboats. They are in charge of navigating vessels, securing tow lines, assisting in docking and undocking procedures, as well as transferring cargo.
Responsibilities:
- Operate and maneuver tug boats to assist with docking and undocking of ships
- Transport cargo and materials between vessels and docks using tug boats
- Maintain and inspect tug boats to ensure they are in good working condition
- Communicate with port authorities and other vessels to ensure safe navigation and operation
- Train and supervise crew members who work on the tug boats
- Follow all safety procedures and regulations to prevent accidents and injuries
- Complete necessary paperwork and documentation related to tug boat operations
- Assist with other tasks and duties as assigned by management or senior staff
Requirements:
- tug master certification or equivalent experience
- ability to operate and maneuver tugboats in varying weather and sea conditions
- strong communication skills to effectively communicate with crew members, port authorities, and other vessels
- knowledge of safety procedures and emergency protocols
- ability to work long hours and be on-call for emergencies
- physical fitness and ability to perform duties such as towing heavy loads and climbing ladders
