Shipyard Painters apply protective coatings and paints to vessels. Responsible for surface preparation, mixing paints, and maintaining a clean workspace, they ensure the longevity and aesthetics of marine structures.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare surfaces of ships for painting by cleaning, scraping, sanding, and removing old paint
- Apply paint or other finishes to ships using a variety of methods, including brushes, rollers, and spray guns
- Mix and match paint colors to ensure consistency and accuracy
- Ensure that all painting work meets safety and environmental regulations
- Inspect surfaces and finished work to ensure a high-quality paint job
- Use equipment and tools such as scaffolding, ladders, and power sanders safely and correctly
- Assist with other tasks as needed, such as cleaning work areas and maintaining equipment
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure that work is completed efficiently and to a high standard
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in shipyard painting or related field
- Ability to prepare surfaces for painting, including sanding, scraping, and cleaning
- Familiarity with various types of paint and coatings, as well as their application methods
- Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations related to painting and hazardous materials
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces
- Strong attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality work
- Physical fitness and ability to lift and move heavy equipment and materials
- Strong communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment
