Painter Assistants support lead painters by preparing surfaces, mixing paints, maintaining equipment, and ensuring clean workspaces. Responsibilities include taping off areas, sanding surfaces, and assisting with paint application.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the painter in preparing surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, scraping and filling holes and cracks
  • Carry and set up materials and tools for the painter as needed
  • Cover floors, furniture, and other surfaces with drop cloths or plastic to protect them from paint
  • Assist in mixing and preparing paint by following instructions and measuring appropriate amounts of paint and other ingredients
  • Help the painter apply paint to surfaces by using brushes, rollers or sprayers
  • Clean and maintain tools and equipment after use to ensure they are in good condition for the next job
  • Follow safety procedures at all times to prevent accidents or injuries
  • Communicate effectively with the painter to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard

Requirements:

  • Prior experience working as a painter assistant or similar role is required.
  • Knowledge of different painting techniques and tools is preferred.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and materials is required.
  • Physical dexterity and good hand-eye coordination is required.
  • Excellent communication skills to receive and follow instructions from the lead painter.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime if needed.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work well in a team environment.
