Lumber Handlers facilitate the movement of timber within a lumberyard or mill. Responsibilities include sorting, stacking, loading, and unloading lumber, ensuring optimal workflow and safety standards.
Responsibilities:
- Inspecting lumber for defects and ensuring quality standards are met
- Sorting and stacking lumber onto pallets or trucks for shipping
- Operating forklifts and other machinery to move lumber around the warehouse
- Keeping track of inventory and ensuring proper storage of lumber
- Assisting with the loading and unloading of trucks delivering or picking up lumber
- Cleaning and maintaining work area and equipment
- Following safety procedures and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries
Requirements:
- Experience in handling lumber or other similar materials
- Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy loads
- Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations related to lumber handling
- Ability to operate equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks
- Good communication skills to coordinate with other team members
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and outdoor environments
