Log truck drivers transport logs from forests to mills or storage locations. Responsibilities include loading/unloading logs, maintaining vehicle safety, and adhering to logging regulations. Expertise in navigation and mechanical knowledge is essential.
Responsibilities:
- Operate a log truck and transport logs from the woods to the mill or other designated sites
- Inspect and maintain the log truck to ensure it is in good working condition
- Ensure logs are loaded safely and securely onto the truck
- Follow all traffic laws and regulations while driving and operating the log truck
- Monitor and document log deliveries, including the weight and amount of logs transported
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, mill personnel, and other drivers to coordinate log deliveries
- Keep accurate records of log deliveries, maintenance, and other required paperwork
Requirements:
- Valid CDL license with a clean driving record
- Ability to operate a log truck and trailer combination safely and efficiently
- Experience with loading, securing and unloading logs
- Knowledge of DOT regulations and compliance
- Physical ability to climb and manipulate logs, chains and binders
- Excellent time management and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Flexibility to work long hours, weekends and holidays when required
