A Junior Estimator calculates preliminary project costs, analyzing blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates. Responsibilities include assessing cost effectiveness and tracking actual costs relative to bids.
Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze project specifications and drawings to determine scope of work
- Perform quantity takeoffs from drawings and develop cost estimates for labor, materials, and equipment
- Obtain and analyze pricing from vendors and subcontractors
- Prepare and submit bids and proposals
- Assist with project scheduling and planning
- Provide support to senior estimators as needed
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits
- Track and maintain project cost data for future reference and analysis
Requirements:
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Strong mathematical skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with construction materials and their costs
- Ability to work well in a team environment
- Familiarity with estimating software, such as PlanSwift or Bluebeam
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field preferred
