Hot Walkers ensure the well-being of racehorses post-exercise, leading them around tracks to cool down. Responsibilities include monitoring horse health, maintaining stables, and reporting any abnormalities.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for walking horses to help them cool down after exercise or competition
- Feeds and waters horses as needed
- Monitors horses for signs of injury or illness and reports to the trainer or veterinarian
- Cleans and maintains equipment, including saddles, bridles, and halters
- Assists with grooming horses, including brushing, washing, and cleaning hooves
- Keeps track of horses' exercise routines and reports any changes or concerns to the trainer
- Follows safety protocols and procedures when working with horses
- May be required to assist with other tasks related to horse care and stable management
Requirements:
- Must have experience working with horses
- Ability to communicate effectively with trainers and other staff
- Physically fit and able to walk for long periods of time
- Knowledge of horse grooming and basic health care
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently
- Flexibility to work early mornings and weekends
- Attention to detail and ability to identify subtle changes in horse behavior
