Engine Cadets assist in the operation and maintenance of a ship's engine room, under the supervision of the Chief Engineer. Responsibilities include monitoring machinery, conducting repairs, and learning maritime mechanical operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of engines, machinery, and equipment
  • Operate and monitor the performance of engines and associated equipment
  • Assist in the implementation of the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) for the engines and associated equipment
  • Ensure that the engine room is clean, safe, and secure at all times
  • Assist in the monitoring of fuel and oil consumption
  • Assist in the monitoring of engine and equipment performance during sea trials and tests
  • Assist in the documentation and reporting of engine and equipment performance, maintenance, and repair activities
  • Assist in the training of junior engine room personnel

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering or equivalent;
  • Must hold a valid STCW certificate;
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work well in a team;
  • Physically fit and able to work in demanding conditions;
  • Basic knowledge of electrical and mechanical engineering;
  • Familiarity with safety procedures and regulations;
  • Willingness to work long hours and be on call for emergencies.
