A Chainman assists surveyors by handling equipment, marking locations, and recording measurements. Responsibilities include maintaining tools, ensuring accuracy of data, and performing preliminary survey tasks.
Responsibilities:
- Perform land surveys to establish boundaries and property lines
- Assist surveyors in measuring and marking land for construction projects
- Set up and maintain survey equipment, including tripods, levels, and total stations
- Record and document survey data, including measurements, angles, and distances
- Communicate with other members of the survey team to ensure accuracy and consistency
- Follow safety protocols and procedures while working on job sites
- Assist in the preparation of survey reports and maps
- Perform other duties as assigned by the survey team leader or supervisor
Requirements:
- Basic mathematical skills for measurements and calculations
- Ability to use measuring tools such as tapes, levels, and theodolites
- Physically fit and able to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Knowledge of construction materials and their uses
- Basic understanding of construction plans and blueprints
- Reliable and punctual with good time-management skills
- Good communication skills to work effectively with surveyors and other team members
- Willingness to learn and follow safety protocols on construction sites
