A Barn Hand assists in daily farm operations, maintaining animal health and welfare, cleaning stables, and handling basic repairs. Responsibilities include feeding livestock, mending fences, and operating farm machinery.
Responsibilities:
- Barn cleaning and maintenance, including sweeping, mucking out stalls, and disinfecting surfaces
- Feeding and watering animals and ensuring they have adequate food and clean water at all times
- Assisting with animal health management, including administering medications, vaccinations, and treatments as directed by a veterinarian
- Tacking up horses and preparing them for riding or other activities
- Assisting with breeding and foaling duties, including monitoring pregnant mares and assisting with deliveries as needed
- Assisting with general farm tasks, such as mowing, fence repair, and equipment maintenance
- Performing other duties as assigned by the farm manager or owner
Requirements:
- Barn hand should have experience in handling and caring for horses, cows, pigs, and other livestock.
- Barn hand should be able to perform basic veterinary procedures like administering medication, cleaning wounds, and checking vital signs.
- Barn hand should be physically fit and able to perform tasks like lifting heavy feed bags, cleaning stalls, and mending fences.
- Barn hand should have basic knowledge of farm equipment like tractors, mowers, and chainsaws and be able to perform basic maintenance on them.
- Barn hand should have good communication skills to work effectively with other farm staff and to communicate any animal health concerns to the owner or veterinarian.
