An Assistant Breeder supports the lead breeder in managing animal mating, monitoring animal health, and maintaining breeding records. Key tasks include genetic research, data analysis, and ensuring animal welfare.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the breeder in all aspects of animal breeding, including selection, mating, and birthing
- Monitor animal health and welfare, and report any concerns to the breeder
- Perform routine animal care tasks, such as feeding, watering, and cleaning
- Collect and record data on animal performance and behavior
- Assist with the development and execution of breeding programs
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards
- Assist with the training and supervision of other breeding staff, as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned by the breeder or management
Requirements:
- Knowledge of breeding techniques and genetics
- Ability to perform basic veterinary procedures
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
- Physical ability to perform manual labor, including lifting and carrying heavy objects
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Flexibility to work irregular hours and weekends
- Knowledge of animal welfare regulations and guidelines
- Experience working with livestock or other animals preferred
